Hedge Fund Appraisal was set up in 2007 by Gabriel Kurland to answer the increasing demand from Hedge Fund Investors for independent due diligence services.

“While managing a fund of hedge funds for a private bank in Geneva, I realized that it was not efficient to perform all the due diligence work in-house. In fact, the resource was never available when needed and as a relatively small firm we were at a disadvantage versus the larger players. I performed a thorough screening of the providers of due diligence services and I realized that the offerings were not meeting my requirements in terms of quality, flexibility, independence and pricing. I therefore decided to fill this gap and created Hedge Fund Appraisal”.

The company infrastructure has been developed to ensure the delivery of professional services in an efficient and cost-controlled environment.

Hedge Fund Appraisal is organized in two offices. The Geneva office is staffed with seasoned due diligence experts with extensive experience in the hedge fund industry. Those experts are supported by a back office based in Bangalore, India.

Gabriel Kurland is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hedge Fund Appraisal. Gabriel has more than 10 years of experience in the finance industry. He has been involved in the hedge fund industry since 2000 and has performed due diligence reviews on more than 200 hedge fund managers.

Before setting up Hedge Fund Appraisal, Gabriel was portfolio manager and senior hedge fund analyst with Anglo Irish Bank in Geneva, Switzerland (2002-2007). He managed the bank’s internal fund of hedge funds and was a member of the funds selection committee. Gabriel was also involved in the building of tailored-made hedge fund portfolios for private clients.

Gabriel, first experience with the Hedge Fund industry was as a manager in the hedge fund operation department of HSBC Republic (2000-2002). He was responsible of a team of four persons in charge of the internal audit for the bank’s hedge fund investments.

He started his career in the banking industry in 1999 as a mortgage specialist with Bank Leumi in Israel.

Gabriel has a BSc. in Economics and Statistics from the Tel Aviv University, an MSc. In Marketing from the Leicster University, UK and he is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) since 2005.
